One year for Halloween my then 7 year old daughter and I went to the fabric store and 30 minutes later we had 20yds of pink, purple and sparkle netting to make her a Fairy costume – including wings and scrunchies. As we went out to canvas the neighborhood for candy, she started dancing and doing karate moves proclaiming “Mommy! I’m a Fairy Ninja!”.
Years later, I keep thinking about that Fairy Ninja especially after finding the skirt seen below in the attic . It is a metaphor for me, my daughter and many others who refuse to be limited by labels. They are many things – creative, colorful, strong, smart, sparkly, energetic, creative and adaptable.
